No recourse to Public Funds
This condition will be stamped on your passport. Public funds include income related benefits and housing and homelessness support, for example Income Based Jobseekers allowance, Income Support, Child Tax Credit. You will still be able to claim work related benefits, such as Incapacity Benefits, as your eligibility for these depends on how many National Insurance Contributions that you have made.
If you have no recourse to Public Funds then your local council may still be able to provide you with limited assistance, particularly if there are children in your care or if you have suffered from Domestic Violence. Your first step should be to contact your local council to enquire if they can assist you. Your local Benefits Agency will be able to advise you if you are able to claim any financial support. It is important that you do not claim if you are not entitled to as this could end up with you being in breach of your condition of entry which is a criminal offence.
We may still be able to assist you regarding any Family Law queries that you may have as you will still be able to obtain Legal Aid if you are eligible.
You can obtain more information regarding this from the Immigration and Nationality Enquiries Bureau on 0870 606 7766 and from the Department of Work and Pensions and Jobcentre Plus on 0207 712 2171.
